2015-Robust Control
Course title : Robust Control - From Theory to Applications
Speaker : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hemanshu Pota (University of New South Wales-UNSW, Canberra, Australia); [CV], [website]
Date : 23 - 24 November 2015 (2 Days)
Time : 9.00 am ~ 5.00 pm
Venue : BATC UTM Razak, UTM Razak School of Engineering & Advanced Technology, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, 54100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Participants : Open to all - Basic understanding of control theory is all that we need. No knowledge of robust control is required.
Summary of Course:
Robust control has been successfully used for many practical applications. In order to embark on a real-time implementation, a
fundamental understanding is required for an effective design. This course will cover theoretical aspects of robust control and its applications to practical systems.
The first part of the course will introduce some key ideas that form the basis of robust control, such as:
The use of norms to specify the “size” of the system or the uncertainty,
Norms of matrices and its relationship to the “size” of the system
Singular values of matrices and their relationship to the norm
"Size" of the system obtained from the frequency response
Relationship between the frequency domain notion of the “size” to state-space representation.
The second part of the course will cover the application of robust control to flexible structures, acoustic systems, and power systems.
